Welcome to the Kent and Sussex Poetry Society

The Kent & Sussex Poetry Society is a lively local group with a national reputation.

We’ve been going for over 70 years in Tunbridge Wells but remain as friendly and supportive and open to newcomers as ever.

Our activities include:

  • Monthly open poetry readings from a wide range of contemporary poets. These evenings also include a short ‘open mic’ slot for readings from the floor.
  • Monthly poetry workshops for writers looking for feedback on their poems.
  • Our mega annual open poetry competition, with nearly £2,000 in prizes.
  • An annual Folio competition, judged by well-recognised poets, for members only.

Annual dues are still only £15, which entitles you to free admission to the local readings and our monthly Tuesday workshops, plus the opportunity to take part in our highly subsidised workshops and writing retreats, for members only.

Most of our readings are held at The Camden Centre, Tunbridge Wells on the third Tuesday of each month, and are open to non-members. Admission £3.

You can also  join the Society on the night by paying our treasurer, who will be on the door.

  1. I am sorry that this is something we do not do as a society.

  2. If you have a look at our programmes, you could find the poets we approve and might find one to fit the bill.

Thank you for a wonderful evening on Tuesday. I should love to join your group. Alas-is it just me or my computer?- when I click on “join us” it takes me to an ad. for a veterinary practice and a financial adviser! Do you have a form to fill in? To whom do I make the cheque payable? Thanks. Hope to see you in April

    • Glad you enjoyed it! You can pay by cheques at our Camden meetings, when the treasurer will be happy to receive it. Our next meeting is March 17th., then, as you heard, our April meeting has been moved to the 28th. The cheque should be made payable to Kent and Sussex Poetry Society. I don’t know why you have been so strangely redirected, but will try to find out!

  4. Hello! The link on this page to ‘join us’ is wrong – it goes to http://kentandsussexpoetrysociety.org/ rather than .com – it looks like someone has mentioned this already but it still needs fixing! Thought you might appreciate the prompt 🙂

Hello – I’m very new to poetry and would like to attend one of your Tuesday meetings. I tried emailing a few weeks ago but never got a reply.

Your link to your membership page is still broken as of 22/10/16

I am just returning to writing poetry after many years and entered your poetry competition this year!
Will the winners be announced on April 18th as I’m afraid I unfortunately cannot attend the meeting. Will winners be informed before or just at the event?

    Many thanks

I wonder if anyone can help me..
Back in 1974 I won the Kent and Sussex Poetry society and I’m pretty sure it was published in what was then your quarterly magazine.

I’ve just had my 60th birthday and I’d love to show my children and grandchildren that I did actually win something and that I had it published.

If anyone knows anything I’d really be grateful.

Then person who ran it then was a lady who I think lived in Upper Grosvenor Road and was a Miss something ?
